OpenKeys plays a piece with a real grand-piano sound, listens to you play it through the microphone or a MIDI keyboard, judges your notes, timing, held length and dynamics, and gives immediate, specific feedback. It installs as an app and works offline.
Highlights
- Five practice modes, including Wait, where the music waits for the right notes, and Follow me, which follows your tempo, rubato and restarts included.
- Coaching that spots patterns, like "Your left hand is consistently about 80 ms late", plus a bar-by-bar heatmap and one-click loops on your trouble spots.
- Honest microphone judging: pitch and onset detection in an AudioWorklet, the score as a prior for chords, and a "?" instead of a wrong verdict when it isn't sure.
- A 7-lesson course, generated scale, chord and sight-reading drills, a daily streak and spaced-repetition review.
- Imports MusicXML, MIDI and ABC, and transcribes your free play locally with Spotify's Basic Pitch.
